Overview
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition where the force of blood against the artery walls is consistently too high, often without symptoms. Known as the "silent killer," it increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.
Normal blood pressure is under 120/80 mm Hg, while elevated blood pressure ranges from 120–129/80 mm Hg. Hypertension Stage 1 is 130–139/80–89 mm Hg, and Stage 2 is 140/90 mm Hg or higher. Contributing factors include genetics, aging, poor diet, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption. A family history of hypertension increases the risk of developing the condition.
