Overview
The Antiphospholipid Antibody (APLA) Profile is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies, which are associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). This autoimmune disorder increases the risk of blood clots, pregnancy complications (such as recurrent miscarriages), and other vascular issues. The profile typically includes tests for Lupus Anticoagulant (LAC), Anti-Cardiolipin Antibodies (ACA), and Anti-Beta-2 Glycoprotein I Antibodies.
Purpose of testing
- To diagnose APS or rule out similar conditions
- To investigate unexplained blood clots or recurrent pregnancy loss
- To assess the risk of thrombosis in individuals with autoimmune diseases like lupus
Early detection aids in effective management and treatment.
